Or, at least it can be—especially for those of us who were classically trained. Many churches don't use sheet music, they don't have a conductor, instruments are amplified—in some ways it feels like the opposite of playing in an orchestra! Consequently, so many classical musicians don't even attempt to play their instrument in a worship band setting... And the Church is the one who pays the price! When played well, however, violin and other classical instruments have the power to add SO much to a worship band. And for me as a classical musician who has played in worship for over a decade, I can attest to how special it is to connect with God in this way.
